The Jets have a very widely publicized quarterback competition, with Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith vying for the starting position. Sanchez will reportedly get the start for this one against the Lions, but we can expect to see a healthy dose of Smith as well.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan has said on several occasions that the race between the two is even. Sanchez will get the start though because he has veteran status over the rookie.

For Detroit, the quarterback situation is well set, as Matthew Stafford signed a contract extension in the offseason. The Lions disappointed in 2012 but have playoff expectations in 2013. The addition of Reggie Bush should be exciting to the backfield, and also give Stafford a nice option on the swing pass.

The Lions will try to find a better balance on offense. They ranked No.2 in the league in passing last season, but No.23 in rushing, gaining just over 100 yards per game on the ground.

Defensively, rookie Ezekiel Ansah will make his debut on the field, and should be fun to watch. He was the No.5 pick by the Lions in April’s draft.
