South Carolina enters this season with SEC and national championship aspirations. The Gamecocks have never won the SEC before, but head coach Steve Spurrier has South Carolina in good position to make a run.
While the SEC race won’t be affected by the matchup with the Tar Heels, the national title picture certainly will.
South Carolina has been great at home over the last couple of seasons and are big favorites to start the season out 1-0.
For the Tar Heels, they aren’t picked as one of the favorites in the ACC, but they are a team that many think should be watched. North Carolina has plenty of talent returning on both sides of the ball and could be a darkhorse in the conference.
Heading into Columbia to try and knock off South Carolina is going to be very difficult to do. Perhaps the Tar Heels could catch the Gamecocks sleeping looking ahead towards the following week to showdown with No.5 Georgia.
Week 1 games in college football are always interesting, because it’s the first time that preseason hype and on field play meet.
