Georgia comes in off of a heartbreaking loss to Clemson on the road last week, 38-35. It was a game in which a couple of turnovers and a botched field goal seemed to seal the Bulldogs fate. There was no question that the inexperience on defense showed as well, with Georgia starting nine new players on that side of the ball.

Having said that though, the Bulldogs were almost able to get what would have been a huge win to start the season. Georgia’s season is far from over despite the loss and every goal aside from beating Clemson is still on the table, national championship included.

What Georgia also lost in addition to the game was their best receiver to an ACL tear. Malcolm Mitchell is done for the season, tearing his ACL while celebrating with teammate Todd Gurley in the endzone. It wasn’t an excessive celebration, Mitchell simply came down awkwardly.

As for South Carolina, they defeated North Carolina last Thursday, and have an extra couple of days rest to heal up. It was an easy win against an inferior opponent, but the story after was Jadeveon Clowney. It was an underwhelming performance from Clowney, who registered just three tackles and no sacks.

The Gamecocks have won three in a row against Georgia, including a 35-7 beatdown last season. But the Gamecocks are three-point underdogs in this game despite the Bulldogs losing last week.

This is the home opener for Georgia, and how they respond after the tough loss to Clemson will be telling of where this team will go in 2013.
