The Fighting Irish began their 2013 season with a sound victory over Temple, putting to rest what was no doubt a long offseason following the catastrophe that was the BCS Championship Game against Alabama in January.
Notre Dame started Tommy Rees against the Owls, as he looked very sharp. Rees will certainly be tested more in this game against the Wolverines defense, combined with an electric crowd at the Big House at night.
The Irish forced six turnovers last season against Michigan, which led to the 13-6 victory. Don’t expect that kind of game on Saturday, though with the two quarterbacks their could be problems with decision making early on.
This will be the biggest game Wolverines quarterback Devin Gardner has played, though he does have experience as a receiver against Notre Dame. Gardner had three catches for 40 yards against the Irish last year. He threw two interceptions against Central Michigan so that is definitely a cause for concern against a better Notre Dame defense. Gardner will need to take care of the ball and move the Wolverines offense down the field.
