TCU rebounded nicely from the opening loss to LSU at Cowboys Stadium a couple of weeks ago. The Horned Frogs easily defeated Southeastern Louisiana 38-17 though it was not without a loss. Quarterback Casey Pachall was injured in the win, as former starter Trevone Boykin stepped in and led the Horned Frogs to a win, tossing two touchdowns in the process. Pachell is expected for be out several weeks after having surgery on his non-throwing forearm.
As TCU prepares for their Big 12 opener, they know that they have already been battle tested, going through the season opener against a good LSU team out of the SEC. Even though they lost, they had their opportunities and proved to the country that they might be the team to beat in the Big 12, especially with Texas getting stomped by BYU on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs will have to contend with a ton of offense from the Red Raiders on Thursday night. Texas Tech ranks No.2 in the country in passing, with more than 453 yards per game. But what’s more impressive is that it’s a freshman walk-on who has been doing it. Baker Mayfield has thrown for 727 yards in two career college football games, including a 61-13 win over SF Austin last week. The Red Raiders rank 9th in the country in scoring right now at 51 points per game.
The Horned Frogs will certainly be the biggest test for the freshman quarterback so far, but this game is at home for Texas Tech, so there will be a friendly crowd backing the freshman.
