Florida and Tennessee come into this game off of losses. The Gators went down to Miami two weeks ago and got beat 21-16 by the Hurricanes to fall to 1-1 on the season. The Volunteers went across the country to take on the No.2 ranked team in the country and got trounced 59-14 by Oregon. Head coach Butch Jones might have restored some faith in the program, but this team isn’t ready for the big time yet.
Fortunately for Tennessee, Florida can’t score on offense, and they can’t hold on to the ball. That should be enough to keep them in the game despite the fact that they are on the road once again.
The Gators rank 100th in the country in scoring, putting up 20 points per game. Though Florida’s defense might be the best in the nation. The team ranks 13th in scoring, but create turnovers and really cause problems for opposing offenses running and passing.
The Volunteers have enough problems trying to throw the ball, and proved that they couldn’t do much of anything offensively against the Ducks. That shouldn’t prove to be any easier against a Florida defense that is better than Oregon’s. Tennessee ranks 114th in the country in passing output, at 137 yard per game. They have shown they can be effective running, and will need to be against the Gators if they hope to spring the upset here.
