Stanford was upset this past week by an unranked Utah team, which came as the biggest shock of Saturday. It was the first top-10 team to go down to an unranked team so far this season. But the Cardinal get a chance to redeem themselves with a win at home over an unbeaten UCLA team that is ranked in the top-10.
This is the start of a very difficult two-week stretch for the Bruins, who get No.2 Oregon next Saturday after playing Stanford on the road. They happen to be on the road for the game against the Ducks as well. It’s safe to say that we will learn a lot about UCLA by the end of October. And also, whoever scheduled this stretch of games must not like the Bruins because that is just brutal.
But first thing’s first, and that is Stanford. UCLA has one of the best offenses in the country, as they average 46 points per game which ranks 7th in the nation. That is in large part due to the quarterback play of Brett Hundley, who is really turning some heads as a potential Heisman winner and a top NFL draft pick next April.
The Cardinal defense will face a huge challenge against Hundley. This Stanford unit has not played as well as predicted coming into the season, as they are surrendering more than 22 points per game. While that ranks in the top-third of the country, the offense hasn’t been that great either.
This will be a statement game for both teams, who still have a lot to play for.
