Baylor is right in the middle of the national title picture, sitting with a perfect record. The Bears have played the bottom part of the Big 12 to this point though. Baylor has ripped through their opponents, leading the country in scoring at 64 points per game. The latest was a 59-14 win over Kansas. The Bears had this Saturday off to prepare for the monster showdown on Thursday night.
Oklahoma has a big opportunity to knock off a top contender in the Big 12. With the Sooners already having a conference loss, a second loss would likely spell the end for Oklahoma and a Big 12 championship this season. That might put a bit more pressure on the Sooners to come in and try to leave Waco with a victory.
Of course, Baylor might have even more on the line as a team in the hunt for the BCS Championship. The Bears are No.6 in the latest BCS Standings that came out on Sunday. But over the course of November their schedule gets significantly harder, which will raise them in the computers.
What might be most impressive about Baylor to this point is that they are winning games big. They aren’t winning in wild 63-56 shootouts. This team is allowing just 15 points per game, which ranks 6th in the country.
It’s hard to envision Oklahoma being able to score with Baylor in this matchup. But if they are, it will come down to shortening the game by running the ball and the clock. Perhaps the best defense against Baylor is a good offense and keeping Bryce Petty and company off of the field.
