The Bears and Lions are deadlocked atop the NFC North along with the Packers all sitting at 5-3. That makes this a very big showdown in the division. Detroit came out on top in a shootout in Week 4 at home, winning 40-32.
That game saw Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler throw for three interceptions, which all proved costly in the end. Cutler is expected to start in this one, rehabbing from a groin injury that has kept him out the last couple of weeks. It’s a great time for him to return as the Bears need him back in the lineup.
Chicago got a huge win over Green Bay on Monday night, but that could be attributed to that fact that Aaron Rodgers was taken out of the game early with a broken collarbone. But it was a victory that the Bears needed to have to keep pace with both Detroit and Green Bay.
The Lions offense is playing very well, coming in off of a victory over Dallas in which calvin Johnson had more than 300 yards receiving. Detroit had the week off this past Sunday, while Chicago had one less normal day of preparation. So the length off between teams is vastly different, which could have an impact on how this one turns out.
The Lions are 2-2 on the road this season, and bring the NFL’s second-ranked passing offense into Soldier Field. The Chicago secondary faces the tall task of trying to limit the touches and yards that Johnson will get in this one. But they can’t lose sight of Reggie Bush either.
At the same token, Bears running back Matt Forte has been great running the ball and catching the ball and will present all kinds of matchup problems.
