Arizona State Can Clinch Pac 12 South Title With Win Over UCLA

The writing is on the wall for the Arizona State Sun Devils this week as they go into the Rose Bowl to take on the UCLA Bruins. A victory, and the Sun Devils will secure a spot in the Pac 12 title game by winning the South division. A loss, and Arizona State’s destiny is out of their hands, and UCLA will then control the fate of the South. Needless to say, this is a game of huge implications for the Pac 12 race.

The Sun Devils have won five-straight games and are 6-1 in the conference with their only loss coming to Stanford. But since last losing to Notre Dame in October, Arizona State has really buckled down, in particular on defense. They have been getting after opposing quarterbacks, recording 18 sacks during the five-game win streak. This could be very critical in trying to disrupt UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley.

The Bruins are a perfect 5-0 at home this season, and are on a three-game winning streak. The UCLA offense has been on fire over the past three weeks, scoring over 30 points in each contest. These offensive performances came on the heels of putting up 10 to Stanford and 14 to Oregon in back-to-back weeks. It’s been a nice rebound, and the Bruins still find themselves in control of their own conference destiny.

Should UCLA beat Arizona State, they will still need to beat USC the following week to win the division. A loss to either would end the division hopes for the Bruins.

UCLA has owned the recent history of the series, winning three of the last four meetings between the two.

This matchup gets underway at 7:00 pm ET Saturday night on Fox.
