Chiefs, Broncos Match Up For 2nd Time In Three Weeks

These two teams face off in a game that could determine which team wins the division and which team takes home the first wild card spot. The Broncos and Chiefs both enter this matchup with a 9-2 record. The one positive note for the Chiefs is this game will be played at home where they have won five of six games this season. The Broncos on the other hand have lost both of their games this season on the road. This game gets underway at 4:25pm ET on CBS.

The Broncos are coming off a disappointing 34-31 loss to the New England Patriots in overtime. After jumping out to a 24 point halftime lead the Broncos allowed the Patriots to score the next 31 points to take the lead before Peyton Manning hit Demaryius Thomas to tie the game up late in the fourth quarter. The Denver Broncos defense stepped up in overtime as they would force the Patriots to punt with a little over two minutes remaining in overtime but a costly fumble would set up the game winning field goal.

Manning finished the game connecting on 19 of 36 passes for 150 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The stat sheet looks less than impressive for the Broncos starting quarterback but that has a lot to do with the Broncos running game racking up 280 yards on 48 carries.

The Chiefs defense will have a difficult test this week after losing both Justin Houston and Tamba Hali during their week 12 loss to the San Diego Chargers. They will have their hands full all afternoon if they can’t find a way to put pressure on Manning. This is what happened Sunday against Philip Rivers as the defense couldn’t force pressure and he led the Chargers down the field with less than two minutes before connecting with Seyi Ajirotutu for the go ahead touchdown.

The pressure will be mounting for both teams as this game could not only be to win the AFC West but for home field advantage through the playoffs.
