The Broncos and 49ers will meet in Week 1 of the 2013 NFL preseason on Thursday night, August 8th at 9pm ET at the home of San Francisco.
There are plenty of storylines for these two teams heading into the regular season, starting with the 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick. We can probably expect to see Kaepernick for a few series in this one. This offseason is a new experience for him, knowing that he is going to be the starter in Week 1. Combine that with high expectations in San Francisco, and the pressure on the young quarterback is certainly there, not only get back to a Super Bowl, but win it.
For Denver, it is year-two of the Peyton Manning era. The first year can be considered a success, with Manning leading the Broncos to the best record in the AFC, including winning 10 games in a row at the end of the year. It didn’t culminate in a championship, but the Super Bowl is definitely the goal this year for the team.
Some off-the-field distractions have plagued the team, as well as some injuries. This is highlighted by the pending suspension of Pro Bowl linebacker Von Miller, who could potentially miss the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
