Griffin has been recovering from a knee injury in the offseason, and while he has been at practice and participating in Washington’s training camp, it’s unlikely that the second-year quarterback will be in action at all this preseason, let alone in Week 1.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said at the start of camp that the team would exercise precaution, and that there is really no reason that he feels pressed to put Griffin in a preseason game to get him some game time. The main focus is the knee and resting it so that it’s 100 percent come Week 1 of the regular season.
For the Titans, they have much to improve from last season, both on offense and defense. QB Jake Locker has some competition as Ryan Fitzpatrick was brought over from Buffalo to compete. Locker is currently listed as the starter, but Fitzpatrick could give him something to think about if he impresses quite a bit in the preseason.
One thing that Tennessee will need to get going if they hope to compete in the AFC South is the run game that ranked 21st in the NFL last season. That starts with RB Chris Johnson who amassed 1,243 rushing yards to go with six touchdowns in 2012. He will be looking to be more productive in 2013 though 2012 was an improvement over the previous season.
