2013 NFL Preseason: Dolphins Playing 2nd Game In Five Days; Exhibition Opener For Jags

It’s going to be an intra-state battle in the State of Florida on Friday evening when the Miami Dolphins head North to pay the Jaguars a visit at EverBank Field in Jacksonville – kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET. And even though most teams are just now beginning the preseason, the Dolphins hit the field for the 2nd time this year after playing Dallas in the Hall Of Fame Game last Sunday night.

Miami put their starters in against the Cowboys for a few series, with Ryan Tannehill completing two passes on five attempts for just 11 yards. Matt Moore saw most of the work, throwing 29 times and completing 19 of those passes for one TD and one INT in the Dolphins’ 24-20 losing effort.

Entering the second game, Miami will probably take a similar approach in the way that they play their starters versus Dallas, however it’s possible that Tannehill could see a few more throws in this one.

For the Jaguars, the main focus has to be on the quarterback battle. Blaine Gabbert is listed as the No.1 quarterback on the depth chart, but the competition is open between he and Chad Henne. Gabbert is also nursing a sore ankle that he sprained last week during training camp which may favor Henne in the snaps department.

While a lot of the attention will be on the QBs, the Jaguars will need to focus on increasing production on the ground. In 2012, Jacksonville ranked 30th of 32 teams in rushing offense. Jaguars’ franchise RB Maurice Jones-Drew will need help from anywhere he can get it whether it be at the QB position, better blocks from the offensive line, etc… – MJD can’t carry the load by himself especially coming off an injury shortened 2012 campaign.
