Philadelphia will want to keep the focus on football, but they know that questions surrounding Cooper will continue to be asked. First-year head coach Chip Kelly didn’t need this distraction before even coaching his first preseason game. But it is what it is, and Kelly has had to answer questions about his receiver.
Cooper will play against New England according to Kelly; as far as how much is not known. The Eagles have other issues on the field as well, such as who will be the quarterback. Michael Vick, Nick Foles, and Matt Barkley will be competing for the starting spot. It appears Vick is leading the way, but Foles and Barkley will see the field.
For the Patriots, they are also looking to move on from a big offseason distraction stemming from former tight end Aaron Hernandez and his murder trial. On the field, New England has other issues as well, such as the weapons n the outside that quarterback Tom Brady can throw to. They have lost some playmakers, and will need other players to step up and take some of the responsibility.
It’s difficult not to think that New England will suffer some sort of loss in offensive output following the loss of production. Brady’s favorite target Wes Welker is gone to Denver, and Hernandez was a rising star in this league.
