Can’t Wait; Sources Say Bart Scott Will Have New Team By This Week

Bart ScottBart Scott is far from his glory days as the star linebacker of the New York Jets. But he could soon find a home with a new NFL team, as the unsigned free agent looks to join with a team roughly halfway through the preseason.

Scott has been an unsigned free agent since being released by the Jets last year. After recording 92 tackles in 2009, Scott’s production has gone down each season, with just 60 total tackles in 2012, though he did have 2.5 sacks.

The veteran linebacker will turn 33 years old this season, so there is still some good playing years in front of him if he is able to come into the right situation. But it’s unlikely at this point that Scott will walk into a team and get the starting spot as an inside linebacker. He still has a great ability to defend the run, which he could be valuable on short yardage situations.

Exactly which team is going to step up and sign him is not yet clear. NFL.com reports that there has been some interest for Scott, but that those teams have not been identified. The report did say though that Scott can be expected to choose a team within the next week so the the wait shouldn’t be very long.

Scott had surgery in the offseason for a toe injury, which certainly hasn’t increased his stock among teams who may be interested. It will be interesting to see where he winds up.
