In a preseason that has been largely overshadowed by the quarterback positions that are ongoing battles for teams, Newton hasn’t been getting the coverage that he saw in his first two seasons. But there are plenty of high expectations surrounding Carolina this season to make that next jump into the postseason.

It hasn’t exactly been a stellar preseason for Newton, but he has been efficient. He threw 17 times against Philadelphia, completing eight of those passes for 112 yards, but did not throw a touchdown.

Outside of Steve Smith, Carolina needs to find another big-play receiver. It could be Ted Ginn Jr. He is certainly capable of beating a secondary. Ginn caught two balls for 39 yards against the Eagles last week.

As for the Ravens, they moved to 2-0 in the preseason with a win over the Atlanta Falcons 27-23. That was highlighted by a 77-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith in the first quarter.

But to be frank, the Ravens starters were outplayed by the Atlanta starters. Baltimore needed three fourth quarter touchdown to take the lead. The Ravens trailed 20-7 at the half.

The starters for both the Ravens and Panthers will be on for the majority of this game, before sitting down and resting for Week 4.
