The Steelers have been struggling offensively through two games of the preseason. The first string offense has not scored a touchdown thus far. Of course, they haven’t seen much time on the field either. That should all come to an end with the third preseason game, as we can expect to see Ben Roethlisberger and the rest of the Pittsburgh starters on the field for at least a half most likely.
This doesn’t change the fact that the starters on offense haven’t looked very good, Roethlisberger included.
Rookie running back Le’Veon Bell made his preseason debut against Washington on Monday night, but left early with an injury, though it isn’t expected to be serious. The Steelers do need help in the run game, and Bell is the player that Pittsburgh is counting on. It will be interesting to watch the offense against Kansas City.
The Chiefs continue to implement the new offensive system under Andy Reid. The offensive line struggled to protect quarterback Alex Smith against the defensive front of the San Francisco 49ers last week. Smith was sacked three times. This is a trend that cannot continue. Smith was probably hit twice that many times as well.
It wasn’t a good performance for the quarterback against his old team, but it can potentially be attributed to growing pains with the new offense.
Jamaal Charles remained sidelined so there was not really a threat of a run game that the 49ers had to plan for. All in all, it was a forgettable performance and one that they hope to rewrite against Pittsburgh.
