It’s always a fun and unique event when the Giants and Jets play each other, with both playing their home games in the same stadium. This is just a preseason matchup though, so there isn’t much on the line. Though for the fans in the city, there are always bragging rights to contend with.
Giants’ fans have certainly had much more to celebrate over the last several years with two Super Bowl titles, while the Jets have been marred with quarterback controversies, and losing records. That theme has continued to spill over even into 2013.
The quarterback situation for the Jets is far from over, though with the ankle injury to Geno Smith it’s looking like Mark Sanchez might be the Week 1 starter. But as the season progresses we should all expect to see Smith take over a struggling Jets team with Sanchez as the starter.
As for the Giants, they dropped to the Colts 20-12 in Week 2 of the preseason. Their struggle on offense centers on trying to find a running game that will be consistent in 2013. They don’t have that single back who looks like he can carry the load, but they could do a running back by committee approach and use several players. If they can find a run game, that will certainly help Eli Manning out in the passing game.
Defensively the Giants lost a couple of players, but they have performed well so far in the preseason. New York certainly appears to be a team that has the potential to contend for the postseason.
