College Gameday will be on hand for this one, so the atmosphere on the campus of Texas A&M should be electric. And why shouldn’t it be? The Aggies were the only team to beat the national champions last year. And they did it on the road, no less.
The win in Tuscaloosa made Johnny Manziel the Heisman Trophy front-runner and his continued performance during the season won it for him. Expectations for Manziel couldn’t be higher. And after an offseason that he and the rest of Texas A&M are trying to put behind them, Manziel has played every bit as well as he did last season through one and a half games.
Alabama enjoyed an extra week of preparation for Manziel and the rest of Texas A&M, getting a bye week after their win over Virginia Tech on August 31. The Crimson Tide didn’t do anything to impress though, and had it not been for two special team touchdowns and a interception returned to the house, they would have found themselves in a dog fight with the Hokies.
The winner of this game will get the upperhand in the SEC West, though both still have to play LSU later in the schedule. Neither the Aggies or the Crimson Tide play Georgia, Florida or South Carolina from the East, so that means that this game could be even bigger.
The loser of this game is not necessarily out of it, but will need the winner to lose at least two SEC games coming in, and to win out.
If Johnny Football is to put his summer behind him, a win over Alabama would be the ultimate icing on the cake.
