Oregon might have just scored another touchdown on Virginia. At least, that’s how it feels. The Ducks blew away the Cavaliers on the road last week, cruising to a 59-10 victory. We knew that Oregon was going to be good on offense even with the departure of Chip Kelly, but the Ducks really have not missed a beat.
This team ranks No.3 in the nation in scoring, with 62.5 points per game, and No.2 in the country in rushing with a staggering 425 yards per game. That challenge to stop them is now on a Tennessee team that has a new head coach as well.
Butch Jones has incited plenty of excitement in two weeks, with Tennessee sitting at 2-0 on the season after impressive performances against inferior opponents. If Jones is able to take the Volunteers on the road and knock off the No.2 ranked team in the country then things might spike out of control on the excitement meter.
That is a long way to go though, and Tennessee will have their hands full trying to slow down Marcus Mariota and De’Anthony Thomas. This is the beginning of a tough six-game stretch for the Volunteers where their season will be determined. They have five games against ranked opponents, including the No.1 and No.2 teams in the country.
