Arizona State / Stanford

For all intents and purposes, this one might as well have not been a ranked matchup, because Arizona State lucked out with a win over Wisconsin last Saturday night thanks to a colossal error by the officiating crew. The crew failed to properly administer end of game practices to set the ball for Wisconsin to kick a potential game-winning field goal. It would have been about a 30-yard attempt, which most college kickers make.

A loss would have dropped the Sun Devils out of the rankings, but as it stands they come in No.23 in the country and unbeaten.

Stanford is also unbeaten as the No.5 team in the country. The Cardinal defense has lived up to expectations thus far, but the offense hasn’t been scoring as was predicted. Stanford has underwhelmed in their opening two wins, but get a chance on national television to go out and get a win over a ranked opponent in the conference.

The Cardinal secondary will be tested, as the Sun Devils rank 8th in the country in passing, with 358 yards per game. Expect Arizona State to try and stretch the front seven of Stanford with the pass. With early success, that could open up some holes in the run game.
