For those who might have been worried about San Francisco following a pair of bad losses to Seattle and Indianapolis, the ship has been righted over the course of the last two weeks. The 49ers seem to be back on track to where preseason predictions had them, scoring a lot, and giving up very little.
San Francisco allowed just a field goal at home to Houston in a 34-3 blow out. The 49ers have given up just 14 points in the last two games, and get ready to face a Cardinals team that has been playing well of late.
Arizona has won back-to-back games, with the latest a 22-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Cardinals are playing good defense, giving up a total of 23 points in their last three games. This will be challenged against the San Francisco offense, which has scored 69 points in their last two.
The secondary of Arizona will be tested this week, not just in pass coverage, but in the running ability of Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick’s ability to make plays outside the pocket always puts additional stress to any secondary. It might very well be the key matchup and the determining factor in the game. Luckily, the Cardinals have Patrick Peterson, who is arguably the best corner in the league. He will have to make some big play and try to create some turnovers for Arizona to stay in the mix in this one.
