Pittsburgh got the hump off its back last Sunday, finally getting the first win of the season. The Steelers defeated the New York Jets 19-6 to stop the losing streak at four from Week 1. That makes this matchup with Baltimore all the more important. It’s go-time for Pittsburgh if they hope to do anything in the division this season. It doesn’t appear like there will be a team that is going to run away with the division.
The Ravens sit at 3-3 on the season, but are coming off of a loss last week at Green Bay. It was another poor start to the game, as Baltimore was shut out in the first half by a Green Bay defense that isn’t exactly stellar. In fact, the Ravens didn’t score a point until halfway through the third quarter. They managed to make a game of it though, losing 19-17.
One thing that we generally know about Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh matchups is that it will be a tough, gritty game with hard hits likely. These two teams know each other very well. This is the first of two meetings each season, with the next matchup not until Week 13.
It’s a bit of a surprise that Baltimore is only averaging 72 yards per game on the ground, which ranks 27th in the NFL. But the Steelers have surprisingly struggled against the run this season, surrendering 115 yards per game. It will be interesting to see if Ray Rice gets it going against them.
