It was two different results for the teams in Week 1 of the preseason. New York got an 18-13 win over Pittsburgh last Saturday, while Indianapolis dropped to Buffalo on Sunday.
Coming into this season if one had to guess who was coming off of a playoff run, it would probably lean towards the Giants. But the opposite is actually true, with then-rookie quarterback Andrew Luck leading the Colts to the postseason while the then-defending Super Bowl champions were left on the outside.
Both come in with high expectations in the 2013 NFL season. Indianapolis is going to try and challenge Houston in the AFC South, while New York always seems to have a tough division in the NFC East.
Giant’s quarterback Eli Manning had a good opening showing last week, going 2 for 5 for 72 yards and a touchdown in just a couple of series. New York’s run game is still looking for that player to really add that extra element to the offense. They have several guys in the running to compete for time, so it will be interesting to see how that develops.
Luck made a brief appearance against Buffalo, completing 4 of 6 passes for 51 yards. Second-year receiver T.Y. Hilton had a big game, catching three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. If he can perform well this season, that would take some coverage off Reggie Wayne. We’ll see if that continues this week.
