The 49ers are coming off of a nice win over Minnesota last week, 34-14. The offense and defense seemed to have control and head coach Jim Harbaugh has to be happy with what he saw, especially given that the starters for both were in the game for an extended period.
The expectations in San Francisco are very large, with quarterback Colin Kaepernick entering his first full season as the 49ers starter.
On the other side of the field is a team with a quarterback who will be trying to battle back this season. Phillip Rivers has had his fair share of criticism over the last few seasons, and Peyton Manning coming to the division certainly hasn’t helped. The Chargers used to be the team to beat in the AFC West, but that is no longer the case.
San Diego wasn’t able to handle that very well last season, but now that they know what to expect it will be interesting to see if Rivers and company will be able to contend with the Broncos for the AFC West title and a postseason berth.
